Salzburg weekend breaks
2006 was Mozart Year and it's no wonder his home city of Salzburg was the first choice for weekend breaks in Austria for lovers of classical music. If you missed it there are still plenty of other reasons to take Salzburg breaks. Like the Residenz and Hellbrunn Palaces, Salzburg Cathedral, climb the Festung Hohensalzburg (the fortress above the old town) for spectacular city views of Salzburg and the Alps beyond. Salzburg is a hub for lakes and mountains holidays and weekend breaks should be made longer if possible to see more. Head out of the city on a tour of the Bavarian Alps and Hitlers "Eagles Nest". There is also the "Sound of Music" tour which shows areas used in the film. The Austrian cuisine is heavy on calories but very addictive and meals can become extended affairs if you choose one of the many beer gardens on your Salzberg breaks! This year several of the UEFA Euro 2008 Football championship matches will be played at the Salzburg Wals-Siezenheim Stadium, the final being held in Vienna
Salzburg flights arrive into Salzburg (W A Mozart) Airport. There are city center buses that leave evry 10 mins with a journey time of approx 25 mins.
